Starting with each players strengths, foundational skills required for mainstream team sports are taught in this program. This includes good sportsmanship, and the unspoken rules of the various types of sport. These skills are not generally overtly taught during mainstream sport, which can lead to kids and young adults feeling overwhelmed in mainstream sports programs. Associating with like-minded players will also foster a sense of community. We also teach strategy, team work, emotion regulation, problem solving, conflict resolution and fairness during the naturally occurring opportunities as they arise.
Training sessions are held indoors on Saturday mornings from 10-11am in North Lakes for young people (teams matched according to age/stage). At the more predictable indoor venue of Northside Indoor Sport & Fitness, your young person won’t have to battle with the outdoor elements whilst trying to learn team sport skills. Infrequent sports field training sessions (and some BBQ’s!) are also incorporated into the program, to ensure generalisation of the skills learnt to the usual environment that these sports are played in, and to grow the sense of belonging. Medals are awarded as the young people progress between the different types of sport.
Mini Seasons is for the kinder kids, and Team Seasons is for primary ages to young adult.
