Your Child’s Calm Kit — Tools for Life
Celebrating growth and building a go-to toolkit for emotional safety
Over the past 16 weeks, your child has practised something extraordinary: noticing their feelings, calming their body, asking for what they need, and bouncing back from tricky moments.
Now, it’s time to celebrate their progress — by helping them choose the tools that work best for them.
This week in Thera-Scholars, Dash is helping kids build their own Calm Kit — a personalised collection of body, brain, and heart tools they can use anytime, anywhere.
It’s a gentle way to say: 💬 “You’ve learned so much.”
💬 “You can do hard things.”
💬 “You have a plan for next time.”
What’s a Calm Kit?
It’s a physical or visual collection of strategies that help your child:
- Pause and calm down
- Feel safe and supported
- Express feelings safely
- Remember what helps
Calm Kits can include tools from all the skill weeks — from breathing cards to break request visuals to soothing objects and brave thought prompts.

What to include:
🎨 A few favourites from each skill area:
- 🌀 Body tools (e.g., dragon breaths, movement cards, sensory items)
- 🌡️ Awareness tools (e.g., emotion thermometer, body clues map)
- 🧠 Thinking tools (e.g., kind self-talk, check-the-facts cards)
- 💬 Communication tools (e.g., break request cards, emotion talk cards)
- 🎲 Calm-down activities (e.g., distraction slips, opposite action ideas)
And most importantly: items your child chooses — that feel safe, helpful, or comforting to them.
How to build it at home:
🎒 Use a lunchbox, pencil case, zip pouch, or even a folder — the container isn’t what matters, the ownership is.
🖍️ Let your child decorate it and name it (“My Calm Pack,” “Dash’s Safe Tools,” etc.)
🧩 Pack it together — invite them to reflect:
- “What helped you when you felt angry?”
- “What do you want to remember next time you feel worried?”
- “What’s something soft or soothing we can put in here?”
🏡 Keep one at home, and if possible, one for school or outings.
Bonus idea: Make it a celebration!
🎉 Throw a “Calm Kit Graduation” moment — a high-five, a certificate, a proud photo. Let them know: This isn’t the end — it’s the beginning of having tools for life.
