The best predictor of relationship adjustment after becoming a parent is the quality of the friendship in the relationship. Parenting for Success seeks to assist aspiring or current parents to learn healthier parenting skills. During Parenting for Success, participants will be supported by a Parenting Coach (ie. other parent/carer/support person) to implement the skills learnt between sessions.
How does this differ to other parenting programs?
Evidence based parenting principles are adapted for neurodiverse (or other) aspiring/current parents by Succeed, to provide a range of parenting tools. Preventative attendance is highly recommended (ie before problems develop) where possible. Principles are adapted into explicit parenting ‘rules’ and a concrete parenting contract, and the vocabulary is adapted to suit the special interests of the parents where possible.
What skills are covered?
The skills covered in the 7 x 1.5 hour session program include:
- Parenting contracts
- Eat, play sleep cycle for newborns
- Toilet training for infants
- Discipline strategies for 2-14 year olds
- Meltdowns vs wilfulness
- Autocratic vs democratic parenting of teens
- Accumulating individual and shared positive experiences.
Therapy assistants are available to generalise skills learnt during clubs to the everyday environment.
*This is an educational skills building program, not parenting therapy counselling. If you experience depression, domestic violence or substance abuse, please consult a professional counsellor or psychologist.
