Going Wild Club (outdoor therapy)

Young people need the space in nature to experience the benefits of free play/exploration, with support to inspire creativity, facilitate connection, and overcome challenges. Includes handwriting and primary school readiness skills as needed.

Having spent a year volunteering with orphans in Romania, Occupational Therapist Leanne’s formed treasured memories outdoors. These included foraging for wild strawberries to make necklaces with to nibble on, and dodging trees in the forest whilst tobogganing. Leanne went on to buy 50 acres of forest, where she raised her first child as an infant.

Young people are spending more time indoors. The rates of loneliness, stress, mental illness, and physical deconditioning are on the increase.

Being in nature has so many benefits. At Succeed Healthcare Solutions, we skilfully use the natural environment to create learning opportunities for young people, whilst they foster relationships.

Daytime and night-time experiences allow young people to ‘go wild’ with their imagination. At the same time they can develop their independence, physical, sensory, cognitive and social skills.

Activities include:

  • Water experiences by the dam
  • Mud experiences
  • Forest experiences
  • Pool experiences
  • Open field experiences
  • Reading, storytelling and handwriting
  • Bush art, craft
  • Primary school readiness.

Run for an hour per week with our Occupational Therapist/Physiotherapist, with visits from our Nutritionist.

Therapy assistants are available to generalise skills learnt during clubs to the everyday environment.

We are members of iNaturalist.
